SKYCITY Returns as Official Hotel for BARFOOT & THOMPSON New Zealand Open

Badminton New Zealand is pleased to welcome back SKYCITY as the Official Hotel and Major Partner of the BARFOOT & THOMPSON New Zealand Badminton Open in 2019.

SKYCITY has been a long-time supporter of international badminton in Auckland, beginning back in 2013 when they came on-board to help relaunch the New Zealand Open after a 4-year hiatus. With their support, the event quickly grew to become a highly attractive event for international players.

The Auckland-based event is well regarded around the world and is part of the HSBC BWF World Tour, with total prize money of US $150,000 on offer.

Chief Executive Joe Hitchcock is delighted to have SKYCITY on board for the 2019 event.

“We pride ourselves on showing fantastic hospitality to our international players when they visit, and SKYCITY Auckland is a perfect partner to ensure they have a great stay in New Zealand.”

“Badminton New Zealand and SKYCITY are both committed to providing world-class entertainment and an exceptional experience to fans and players alike.”

Executive General Manager Hospitality Callum Mallett says SKYCITY is delighted to continue to play a significant role in delivering the world class sporting event.

“Since 2013 we have thoroughly enjoyed hosting the visiting players and officials during their time in Auckland and we’re excited to do so again this year. The Barfoot & Thompson New Zealand Badminton Open is a truly world class event and we are proud to be involved,” says Mallett.

The BARFOOT & THOMPSON New Zealand Badminton Open broke new ground in 2018, with Chinese superstar Lin Dan wowing a sold-out crowd and putting on a badminton masterclass. Expectations for 2019 are understandably high, with many fans hoping Lin Dan will return to defend his title.

The BARFOOT & THOMPSON New Zealand Badminton Open will take place from April 30 to May 5 at the Eventfinda Stadium on Auckland’s North Shore.
